I.H.C. centre for Burwood
The Canterbury branch of the Society for the Intellectually Handicapped plans to build a “special needs” centre in Burwood but not at Burwood Hospital, as was reported in “The Press” on Thursday.
The centre will cater for the care and training of the multi-handicapped and the society hopes to buy an existing home nearby to provide residential facilities.
It is now raising money for the project because, although the Government has announced that it will pay for the education of severely handicapped children, this is restricted to those of school age. The centre will cater also for children of pre-school age.
