Retailer withdraws ‘Hitler’ T-shirt

PA Auckland An Auckland clothing retailer has stopped selling a T-shirt publicising “Hitler’s European Tour 1939-45” because it is too controversial. The retail manager of Keans, Ltd, Mr Dino Josephson, said that he had withdrawn the shirt from sale even though it was one of the store’s hottest selling items. “We had only one complaint but I decided it was too controversial and we were not prepared to get involved,” he said. The shirt, an imitation of

popular music tour souvenirs, lists the dates of Hitler’s World War II “venues.” The secretary and manater of Auckland’s Returned ervices Association, Mr John Hancox, said the shirt was disgusting “The mayhem that this guy (Hitler) caused is inconceivable and my opinion is that digging it up for the sake of commercialism is stupid. Most returned servicemen would support my view,” he said. The shirt’s Auckland suppliers could not be reached for comment.
