5 arrested after robbery

PA Auckland The police at Otahuhu in South Auckland arrested five young people during the week-end in connection with an incident on Friday in which two young couples were tied up and robbed at Papatoetoe. The police said that the couples had been forced from a van beside the Returned Services’ Association hall about 10 p.m. They were threatened with baseball bats, tied up, and made to lie down beside a hedge. A purse, containing a small amount of cash was taken from one of the young women. The offenders drove off in the van, which was later found abandoned in Papatoetoe. The police on Saturday arrested five youths, two aged 16, and the others aged 15, 17, and 18. They will appear in the Children and Young Persons Court at Otahuhu today charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault. An Otahuhu detective said that one of the youths had been on bail on a charge of aggravated robbery.
