Taxi charges in Chch up

Christchurch taxis have been granted permission to increase flag-fall charges 10c. The flag-fall charge is now fl. The increase is to cover the $8 a week general wage order. Taxi-drivers throughout New Zealand were given a 5c flag-fall increase on March 1 but this was rejected by Christchurch drivers who considered it meant too much of an inconvenience with change,

said the Ministry of Transport’s charge officer. The general wage order meant that taxi operators were able to charge another 5c from April. These two increases have been combined by the Christchurch drivers to bring the flag-fall charge to $l. Rural charges have also increased slightly. The first kilometre now costs $1.25 with 41c for each additional 500 m.
