Minister wants more history, geog. in schools

PA Wellington More history and geography should be taught in schools, said the Minister of Education, Mr Wellington, yesterday. Announcing a review of the Forms 1 to 4 social studies syllabus, Mr Wellington said there was a need to “restore some balance.” He wants “a greater

understanding of the heritage of New Zealand, and its place in the Pacific and in the world.” A group of experienced social studies teachers would join Education Department officers next week to draw up a draft document for the revised syllabus, he said. Membership of the review team will be published soon.
