Appeal strikes snag

Many potential donors wishing to help re-unite Mrs Mere Clayton with her daughter, Anita, who is recovering from a cancer operation in London, had been turned away, said fund-raisers yesterday. Mrs Maree Singh, a sister of Anita who is co-ordinat-ing the effort, said yesterday that arrangements to allow persons to pay money to a fund through any Post Office bank had not worked.

Earlier this week Mrs Singh opened an account called the Anita Clayton Fund-raising Body, at the Belfast branch. She said yesterday that the other branches apparently had not been told of the name of the account. Potential donors who did not have an account number had been turned away. However, all branches had now been informed, she said, and there should not be more difficulties.
