House shift likely

Hogben House should be removed from its site in Bealey Avenue within two weeks, says the man who wants to move it to his vacant section at Governor’s Bay.

Mr Richard Proctor said yesterday that the problem of raising the money to pay for the house’s removal had “hopefully’-' been overcome because he had been offered a substantial deposit on his existing home in New Brighton by a buyer. The owner of the historic Hogben House, Carlton Mill Lodge, has said that its earlier deadline for removal of March 12 is not inflexible.

Mr Proctor said that he was arranging to have the large old home, which was once occupied by Ernest Rutherford, removed initially to a temporary site where it would be stored on blocks until it could be moved to Governor’s Bay.
