Cigarettes for Turks
Turks will soon be able to buy Western cigarettes legally in local stores for the first time in 30 years. The first batch of foreign cigarettes — 25 million packets of 11 brands from the United States, Britain, West Germany, and Switzerland costing $7.5 million — will be imported by State concerns in the next seven weeks. The new Government decided soon after coming to power late last year to allow the import of foreign cigarettes and to tax them heavily to fund the Government’s housing progfnmme.
