Easy work for Riccarton pair
Special correspondent Wellington Fast work was at a premium at Trentham yesterday when a handful of visitors worked with the few locals that will be involved in tomorrow's opening of the March meeting. Clansman and Gaffa, from the south, and Mac’s Gamble were the ranking visitors. Fast work was done on the outside of the course proper and on the plough. Clansman, which is in the U.D.C. Finance Handicap, and Gaffa (2ZB Golden Mile) did little, having only arrived late the previous evening. Both look well
enough. Jim Walker will ride Clansman, which won at Wingatui last week. Gaffa has no confirmed rider yet, and the lack of rain has not impressed the trainer, Dave Kerr. much. Kerr would like to see a bit of rain, and if the current dry conditions continue he is of a mind to bypass the first day. Gaffa is in the DB 1600 on the final day and he, along with Clansman, could stay over for the Manawatu.' meeting later in the month. The Gold Cup is a tempting event. Mac's Gamble (Barr) and Mac’s a Million ended with 600 on the plough in 38.5. *
