Blackheath

Sir, — Blackheath’s 10 terracestyle houses at 63-81 Durham Street are attractive reminders of old Christchurch and the skills and style of our early settlers. I hope they can be retained as dwellings because they are a pleasing contrast to the uniform patterns of commercial buildings. The older buildings in Sydenham give a special atmosphere to the area. Would it be possible for them to be retained for their special interest? Today I admired the floral displays on the river bank, especially the Bray cob cottage replica. How sad to see the note attached “Demolished 1944.” — Yours, etc., DAPHNE CRAMPTON. March 1, 1984.
