Shearing contests
The intermediate, senior and open grade heats of the shearing will begin at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the South Bay Domain, venue for the Seventy-second Kaikoura A. and P. Show. ICI Tasman has donated the prize money for this day’s events, with entrants competing for total prize money of $340. Kaikoura is the fourth of five venues counting towards competition points; the previous venues being Murchison, Nelson and Blenheim, with the competition concluding at Flaxbourne on March 17. Three hundred Coopworth
sheep for these events will be carted by courtesy of Gills Transport from the property of Mr Peter Mclnnes. In the open event, strong competition is expected from David Harris (Kaikoura) and Dick Murphy (Waimate). Or particular local interest, and bound to arouse a few nostalgic memories, and perhaps a few bets on the side, will be the local farmers and veterans event, to be held after the competition finals. The referee for the day will be Mr Don Toshach, from Rangiora.
