Wedding celebrations end in card game
NZPA-AAP Sydney The celebrations after the traditional marriage of Elton and Renata John ended in an early-morning card game in the couple’s presidential suite at Sydney’s Sebel Town House. John’s publicist, Patti Mostyn, who was a bridesmaid, said that the couple had left the sAustso,ooo wedding reception shortly
after midnight to play cards and talk in their suite with a small group of close friends. While most of the 87 guests had left by 2 a.m., Ms Mostyn said, the card party had gone on for about another two hours. The guests, including Olivia Newton-John, Michael Parkinson, lan "Molly” Meldrum, and Sir Robert Helpmann, were all “people El-
ton really wanted to have there,” said a hotel spokesman. In one break with the traditional style of the evening, Elton and Renata’s guests had not come bearing gifts. “There weren’t any wedding presents as such,” the spokesman said. “After all, what could you possibly give someone who has everything?”
