French jockey injured
NZPA-Reuter Hong Kong The former French champion jockey. Philippe Paquet. was seriously injured in an accident on Monday during morning track work at Hong Kong's Shatin racecourse. Hospital sources said the 32-year-old jockey was in a coma when he arrived at the hospital. However, doctors described his condition as stable and said he was expected to recover. Although a brain scan showed no fractures. Paquet was believed to have a blood clot on the brain. Witnesses said his galloping mount suddenly lost its footing. stumbled and rammed into a side-fence. The impact threw Paguet out of the saddle. The animal, while struggling to get up. kicked Paquet in the head and knocked off his helmet, they said. Paquet has been riding in Hong Kong regularlv since 1973.
