Lucozade back in good order
Special correspondent Hastings The Avondale Cup winner, Lucozade, was back at the Hastings track on Tuesday morning after a brief let-up and looks in great condition. The Avaray five-year-old has not raced since finishing well back in the Wellington Cup on January 21. He has been spelling on the property of his owner, Mr Gordon Kelt. Mr Kelt said that Lucozade was likely to step out at the Hastings barrier trials today. Then he will probably run in an open sprint on the second day of
the Napier Park meeting on Saturday week. His trainer, Colin Jillings, had expressed a wish to take Lucozade to Australia with McGinty and I’m Henry this autumn. However, at this stage there is a strong possibility that Lucozade will not make the trip. Mr Kelt is keen to set the horse for the Hawke's Bay Cup in April and is looking to run him at the Wellington meeting in March as a leadup. Plans will not be finalised, however, until the horse runs at the Napier Park meeting.
