Toyota hires orchestra
PA Wellington The Japanese car company, Toyota, has become the first business organisation to hire the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra for a private concert. Toyota has hired the 89member orchestra together with the English conductor, Ron Goodwin, for private concerts in Wellington to-
morrow evening, and in the Town Hall Auditorium in Christchurch on Friday evening. A company spokesman would not give the cost. The orchestra’s assistant general manager, Mr Peter Avery, said, "I am not at liberty to tell you how much, but it is obviously worth our while.”
He confirmed the concerts represented the first time the orchestra had been hired by a company for private concerts. “It is the first time as a total closed performance,” he said. “It is a private concert. They are buying the orchestra.”
The occasion is the launch of a new vehicle.
