Lisa’s baby brother

Apple’s Macintosh, a baby brother to the Lisa microcomputer, has been announced in the United States and will be launched in New Zealand on Thursday.

The Macintosh is Apple's only chance to reverse the market’s trend to the IBM Personal Computer. At $U52495 it is slightly cheaper than an equiva-lently-configured IBM PC. United States reports say that the Macintosh is a scaled-down version of the

Lisa, comprising a Motorola 68000 processor. 128 K bytes of memory, a single 3tiinch floppy disc drive and a monochrome monitor. It weighs nine kilograms. As with the Lisa, a mouse is used to issue commands to the Macintosh. A new version of the Lisa microcomputer, with a 3Vainch floppy, has also been announced. This new Lisa will be capable of running all the Macintosh software.
