Californian swimmer to try lakes

Miss Lynne Cox of Los Alamitos, California, is planning to swim across Lake Tekapo and Lake Pukaki. Miss Cox who has swum Cook Strait and the Strait of Magellan arrived in Wellington at the week-end and intends to be in Tekapo today or tomorrow. Weather permitting she will swim Lake Tekapo first and perhaps Lake Pukaki the same day. Neither lakes have been swum before, both being regarded as too cold for swimming. The average temperature now is 14C.
