Dog-stabbing ‘solved’
Charges may be laid against a man in connection with the stabbing of a black Labrador-cross dog in Linwood late last month.
The man is helping the New Brighton police with their inquiries into the incident, as a result of a telephone tip-off. Constable Neil Clark said a decision would be made today on what, if any
charges, would be laid against the man. “How the dog got injured has been solved,” he said. The dog, named Shamus, was found wandering in 01liviers Road with a 13cm knife embedded to the hilt in his back. He had haemorrhaged, had air in his chest, and was close to death.
However, a veterinarian removed the knife and after
treatment Shamus was reunited with his owner, Mr Gary Jones. The Canterbury inspector for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Miss Barbara Ash, said yesterday that the dog had recovered well from the wound.
“Shamus is doing well; he is getting back to his social life,” she said.
