N.Z. makes final
PA Auckland New Zealand and Australia will meet in the final of the Oceania under-16 soccer tournament after each won their lead-up matches last evening. New Zealand defeated New Caledonia 1-0, and Australia beat China-Taiwan, 3-0. The Kiwis looked unconvincing in their match, giving away too much possession with poorly directed passes. Attacks often foundered because of a lack of finishing. Simon Peterson scored the only goal. The New Caledonians de-
fended stoutly and their wellorganised offside trap caught out the Kiwis many times. Australia maintained its unbeaten record and ended Taiwan’s hopes of a final place. Paul Trimboli scored for Australia after only three minutes and then scored again from a corner 29 minutes into the second spell. The third Australian goal was scored by David Aranyi. Australia and New Zealand will meet in the final today. A draw would give the Australians the tournament. New Zealand needs to win to take the honours.
