Pair swap parties
PA Wellington Prominent Social Credit members in Matamata and Kapiti have defected to the New Zealand Party. A Matamata businessman, Mr John Doel, who stood for Social Credit in Rotorua at the 1981 election, would seek the New Zealand Party nomination for Matamata next year, said the
New Zealand Party publicity officer, Ms Rawinia Heremaia, yesterday. The president of the Kapiti Social Credit electorate, Mr D. Eddowes, had also left to join the New Zealand Party, she said. . Mr Eddowes said that he had reluctantly resigned after evaluating the manifestos of the two parties.
