Rape bill to toughen law
PA Wellington Legislation to reform the law on rape was approved by the Government caucus yesterday and would be introduced in Parliament next week, said the Prime Minister, Mr Muldoon, yesterday. The new bill would change the law “quite considerably,” he told reporters.
Mr Muldoon would not detail the changes involved, saying the issue was “very complex.” But he agreed with a questioner that the general effect of the changes would be to toughen up existing law.
the rape bill was one of a number of new bills ap-
proved by the caucus yesterday, he said. Others involved criminal justice and penal law reform and contained miscellaneous changes that would also be
of interest. The bills would be studied in select committee over Parliament’s summer recess.
