Timaru recount

Mrs Helene Mclver has held her four-vote margin after a recount in the closely contested Timaru Mayoralty. The recount yesterday did not alter final figures on the October 8 election count. However, the results have yet to be officially confirmed, probably early next, week. Mrs Mclver, a councillor for four terms, defeated the former Deputy Mayor, Mr D. T. Crowe. A former Mayor, Mr D. R. Dowell, was third in the contest Mrs Mclver has been Timaru’s Mayor since October, 1982, when she assumed the post relinquished by Mr S. R.- Bennet to become the city’s second woman Mayor.
