Appeal on the way

Special correspondent Cambridge 3

The Cambridge trainer, Joe Bromby, planned to lodge an appeal yesterday against the placings in the New Zealand One Thousand Guineas at Riccarton last Saturday. Bromby said at the Cambridge training track yesterday that the matter was in the hands of his solicitor, “as far as I am concerned it goes on today,” he said. Eastern Bay finished a close second to Barletta, and a protest subsequently lodged by Eastern Bay’s rider, David Walsh, was dismissed.

Despite Eastern Bay’s defeat Bromby is delighted with her achievements. He said: “She is one of the best I have ever had. She had a hard race, but never turned a hair. She will race next either in the Waikato Guineas on November 19, or the Bayer Classic at Levin.”
