Tam Audain’s Oaks
Tam Audain impressively won the South Canterbury Oaks at the Timaru Greyhound Racing Club’s meeting at Chertsey on Sunday.
After easily accounting for her heat rivals earlier in the day, Tam Audain made her rivals look second rate, clearing away to win the Oaks final by 10 lengths in a useful 31.38 s (530 m Prolonski, second all the way, was never challenged for that position, 4 lengths clear of Kokiri Mist, which just shaded Silenti Fleur.
Tam Audain (Silent Won-der-Zanduke) has always looked above average, and the Oaks was her fourth successive win. She is trained at Kaiapoi by Jim Johnstone, who completed a rare double when successful with Alvarez in the day’s other feature race; the
South Canterbury Derby.
Alvarez, from the same litter as Tam Audain, was midfield mostly, but improved sharply to hit the lead turning for home. He won by a length from the strong-finishing Noble Ace, with Doc Hilarity only a head away, third. The win by Alvarez ended a long list of placings, and, like Tam Audain, he should prove to be a great money spinner for his connections this season.
Other winners on the programme were Blue Ronwin, Aeras Havoc, Imalona, Merely Serene, Pardon Teena (530 m Keytoe Abbe, Antrim Glory, Fresh Blossom, Erin’s Surprise, Mr Pumblechook, Silent Lubra, Laurel Rook (295 m and Daphne’s Disco (760 m
