Trainers fined
D. W. Cusdin, the ownertrainer of Marche Noir, and P. J. Williams, the trainer and part-owner of Amacola, were fined $2OO by a subcommittee of the Canterbury District Committee at a hearing yesterday into their failure to notify club secretaries of the administration of eftolon powder as required under the rules. The charges preferred by the racecourse inspectors, Messrs R. D. Williams and J. G. Howell, arose from the swabbing of Marche Noir after his win in the Aorangi No. 1 at the Geraldine Racing Club’s meeting at Orari on September 26, and the swabbing of Amacola after she had won the Sir Bart Handicap at the Ashburton County Racing Club’s meeting on September 6.
In both cases the racing conference analyst reported the presence of the drug sulphaphenazole in the urine samples. The sub-committee, comprising Messrs P. G. South (chairman) D. McKenzie and A. Gray, made no order for the payment of costs.
