Post Office hours

Sir,—Recently I went to New Brighton to shop on a Saturday. I

was dismayed to find the Post Office there closed; open for only two hours of the morning. In our modern society, one has become conditioned to the necessity of doing business on a Saturday, but there I was, outside the New Brighton Post Office unable to post my many parcels. I was not the only one caught unaware. Others were also under the misguided belief that the Post Office is there to provide a service. The present Government has seen fit to introduce competition to the railways. Perhaps the time has come for the Post Office to be more accountable to the people—Yours, etc.,

PETER W. KENNEDY. November 5, 1983.
