Wool up at Napier
PA Napier Buyers representing China were active in buying medium to fine hogget wool at yesterday’s Napier wool sale, according to the official report. Competition was generally well spread, however, and there was also a strong demand for coarse ewe and second-shear wool. Fine hogget wool was in sellers’ favour compared with the Christchurch sale of November 2, and coarse ewe wool was to 2% per cent dearer. All other types were in buyers’ favour with oddments being erratic and slightly cheaper than at Christchurch. Wool Board did not bid on any hew season’s
wool and had only a few bales of its stock passed back to it. The offering was 23,371 bales of new season’s wool and about 1000 bales of scoured wool. The adjusted ‘ weighted average sale price was 286.27 c a kilogram, according to the Wool : Board. Based on this, a Government supplementary payment of 11.8 per cent will apply to all wool sold at the sale and all wool sold privately from midnight on November 2 to midnight on November 9.
