N.Z. still third in world bridge
NZPA-Reuter Stockholm New Zealand failed to make up ground on Pakistan in yesterday’s ninth round in its battle for a place in the final of the World Bridge Championship, for the Bermuda Bowl. Both teams lost 13-17. New Zealand went down to Italy, and Pakistan was beaten by Jamaica. The United States, the holder of the trophy, is
almost certain of a place in next week’s final. It beat Brazil 25-3. In the remaining match, Sweden and Indonesia drew 15-15. Standings: United States 200, Pakistan 156, New Zealand 137, Sweden 134%, Italy 130, Indonesia 108, Brazil and Jamaica, 101. Pending appeals could affect the scores of New Zealand, Italy, Pakistan, and Brazil.
