History of local horticulture
Sir,—l thank all the people who responded to the request for information about Alfred William Buxton, an early Christchurch nurseryman and landscape gardener. Their contribution has greatly facil-
itated our research. A related question that interests us is the development of the Christchurch Gardeners’ Union, registered in 1901, until its merger with the Labourers’ Union in 1942. If anyone has any knowledge of the activities of this union, with a particular emphasis on the events leading up to and the eventual merger, I would very much appreciate hearing from them. I can be reached by telephoning, 252811, ext. 514, or by writing: C/- Dr R. S. Tipples, Department of Horticulture, Landscape and Parks, Lincoln College—Yours, etc., CATHERINE A. HURLEY. September 19, 1983.
