TV hours to stay

Parliamentary reporter

Television New Zealand announced yesterday that the transmission hours for both networks will remain as they are in the meantime.

Television One will continue to open at 10 a.m., with TV2 starting at midday. Television New Zealand had planned to open

TVI at 11.30 a.m. and TV2 at 2.30 p.m.

“The decision to cut morning hours has been deferred until the Broadcasting Corporation board can consider the proposal and apply to the Broadcasting Tribunal for a variation in the warrant,” the direc-tor-general, Mr Allan Martin, said. The decision to continue

with the present transmission hours meant that to remain within budget, TVNZ was investigating cuts in other areas, Mr Martin said. When TVNZ announced its intended cuts last week, Mr Martin said that hours had to be reduced by a total of 20 hours a week to keep TVNZ within its budget.
