Withdrawn advt modified

PA Wellington The “Stop making love to the bottle” advertisement withdrawn from television by the Alcoholic Liquor Advisory Council’s chairman, Mr John Robertson, returned in a modified version on Monday.

One line in the advertisement has been changed. The line, “You should be making love to me,” is now “Go and make a cup of tea.” The council’s public affairs officer, Ms Diane Burns, said yesterday that the new line was deliberately corny and the council was trying to use humour to get its message across. The essential message had not changed — that people were less attractive when drunk, she said.
