Squash final Sumner’s
Two Sumner teams will play off in the grand final of the New Zealand Permanent women’s division one interclub squash competition on October 4. Vistalite Sumner II completed the second round with a clean sweep over Lancaster Park to finish six points clear of Burnside. But the other team in the grand final will be the first round winner, Vistalite Sumner I. The men’s second round competition remains unresolved with one week remaining, but it seems the first round winner, Linwood, is heading for a double celebration.
Vistalite Sumner I, which was leading the competition, dropped four valuable points against Marist last evening. The New Zealand junior, Steven Wren, lost for only the second time this season after a titanic struggle with Joe Rosevear.
Next week Linwood should pick up maximum points against Suburbs while Sumner I will be without its New Zealand world championship squad member, Paul Viggers, who was in grand touch last evening. In the last eight interclub matches he has dropped just 27 points — 3.37 per match. MEN High School Old Boys 8, Christchurch II 2 L. P. Skurr beat W. Seebeck, 8-10, 9-6, 9-1, 9-2; J.
