Film festival
NZPA Venice Jean-Luc Godard’s “Prenom Carmen” won the Golden Lion award for best film at the Venice film festival.
The film received two other awards, the jury special prize for camera work going to Raoul Coutard and for the soundtrack to Francois Musy. The jury special prize went to “Biquefarre” by France’s Georges Rouquier. The prize for best actress went to Darling Legitimus for her role in “Rue des Cases Negres” by Euzhan Paley of Martinique and the film also won the Silver Lion for best first film.
