The day in Parliament
PA Wellington Parliament sat at 2.30 p.m. yesterday. The Associate Minister of Finance, Mr Falloon, introduced a private bill, the Dannevirke and District Soldiers’ Institute Dissolution Bill. It was referred for select committee consideration.
Annual reports were tabled by the Small Business Agency, the Commerce Commission, and the Birkenhead, Mataura, and Terawhiti licensing trusts.
I Members gave five notices of motion. The Area Health Boards Bill was introduced by the Minister of Health, Mr Malcolm and referred to the Health and Welfare Committee. The Health Services Personnel Bill was introduced and also referred to the Health and Welfare Select Committee. Ministers answered 12 questions. Ministerial replies to questions were debated until the House adjourned for dinner, at 5.30 p.m. When the House resumed at 7.30 p.m., the Leader of
the House, Mr Thomson, put a motion that Government business take precedence for the rest of the session during the time set aside until now for private members’ business on Wednesday ■afternoons.
The motion was passed, on a 39-36 division.
The Budget debate resumed. Speakers were the Minister of Science, Dr Shearer, Mrs Mary Batchelor (Lab., Avon), Mr G. W. F. Thompson (Nat., Horowhenua), and Mr N. J. Kirk (Lab., Sydenham). Mr Kirk’s speech was interrupted by the 10.30 p.m. adjournment.
