Catchment funds allocated
The National Water and Soil Conservation Authority’s works programme funding allocation for 198384 has been fixed at $62.85 million.
The works programme, which was received by the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council and the Water Resources Council at their August meetings, provides for an allocation of $34.79 million for catchment works and $28.05 million for irrigation and rural water supply.
Catchment funding for this year will enable existing commitments to be met and 22 new schemes to be started. Allocations for existing works in Canterbury, West Coast, and Marlborough are: Wye, Marlborough, $15,000; Poerua, Westland, $50,000; Cam and Cust, Canterbury, $115,000; Dry Creek. South Canterbury, $25,000. Allocations for new irrigation schemes include $424,000 for Eiffelton and $255,000 for Te Pirita. New rural water supply scheme allocations are for Landsdowne, Canterbury, $66,000; Fighting Hill, $60,000, and Cape Foulwind, $87,000.
