N.Z. Party
Sir,—The tag “self-made man” Is being advanced as an attractive recommendation to would-be followers of Bob Jones and party. It is an empty boast, however, because no-one is a self-made anything. Even Allan Hewson, with 14 out of 18 points to his credit, required the co-operative effort of the rest of his team to put him in scoring positions. Similarly, Bob Jones requires people to undersell and others to overbuy to score a profit-making deal. Self-made man indeed! — Yours, etc., R. JONES. August 23, 1983.
Sir,—lt is not too late for Mr J. H. F. MacFarlane to put up New Zealand Party candidates in the West Ward for the October City Council elections. This would be most beneficial to us Labour candidates as it would split the Citizen vote. Many Labour people do not vote in the West Ward in local body elections and, worse, a lot probably are not even on the rolls. A high Labour vote would put an end to the West Ward being the Old Saturn of the Citizens group. Rolls close on September 9. — Yours, etc., FRANK MINEHAN, Labour Party candidate, West Ward. August 23, 1983.
