Forest protection request
PA Wellington The National Parks and Reserves Authority has been asked to provide an independent second opinion on the adequacy of protection for the KaimaiMamaku Forest Park In inviting the authority to do this, the Joint Campaign on Native Forests said nroposed changes to the plan for
the forest park fell well short of the protection requested in submissions from the public. , The director of the J.C.N.F., Mr Guy Salmon, said 38 per cent of the forest park remained open to future logging in some form, and a significant area of exotic timber species was to be planted in the park’s native forests. 11
