Peace cycle shuttle
Cyclists joining the con- < voy riding from Victoria Square to Lyttelton on Sun- i day for the peace festival ; organised by the Christ- t church Peace Forum can t have an easy ride through i the Lyttelton tunnel. j The organisers had hoped 1 the tunnel could be closed to I allow the cyclists to ride through, but discovered too < late that this required six | weeks notice. Instead, a ( shuttle service had been arranged to carry through i the tunnel those cyclists 1 unwilling to take on I the Port Hills, said .< a spokesman for the
organisers. A covered truck will make its first trip at 10.45 a.m. from the main entrance of Ferrymead Historic Park. It will begin the return shuttle service at 4 p.m. from the old passenger ferry wharf, the venue for the festival. The festival has been organised to mark the departure from New Zealand of the nuclear vessel U.S.S. Texas, and to celebrate the nuclear-free zone status of Lyttelton. A peace train trip to Lyttelton, stalls, music, and street theatre are -among activities planned.
