Swaziland throne plea
NZPA Mbabane The former Queen Regent Dzeliwe, ousted recently in a palace coup, has asked the Swaziland High Court to put her back on the Throne. Lawyers for the Government called on the Court to dismiss the suit, saying that the removal of Dzeliwe and the appointment of Princess Ntombi as Queen Regent had been handled in accordance with Swazi law and custom. The court reserved judgment until next week on the technical legal issues.
Observers said that the Liqoqo, a 15-member advisory council, had removed Dzeliwe because it was feared that she was being used by those wanting to replace traditional Swazi rule with more Westernstyle Government. Queen Regent Ntombi is the mother of Crown Prince Makhosetive, who is 15. He' has been designated successor to King Sobhuza, who died in August, 1982, after 61 years on the Swazi Throne.
