University radio station tunes out
Several of the voluntary staff at Radio U, the University of Canterbury radio station, wave good-bye to their listeners. In front, Peter Taylor and Nicki Fyfe. Back (left to right), Bill Simon, Steven Walker, Callum Hantier, Robert McLaughlin, and Bruce Russell.
On Sunday, the station will end its longest broadcast period. Radio U began its 1983 transmission in early February. It alternated between full-time and part-time (seven hours daily) broadcasts in the six months. To celebrate the end of transmission — although Radio U will be back early next year — the station has arranged special “good-bye" shows all this week-end.
