Diving titles end
PA Hamilton China’s 12-year-old Gao Min, with two gold medals, emerged as the outstanding personality of the Fina world agegroup championships which ended in Hamilton last evening. Min’s style brought compliments from some of the world’s top diving experts yesterday, as she again showed the style that has made her the Chinese national open champion. While the plaudits were being heaped on her as an
individual performer and on a United States team which won seven golds on its way to topping the table with 20 medals, New Zealand officials were left to ponder the future. “Where do we go from here” might well be a fitting epitaph to the team’s performances as they struggled near the tailend in almost all the events.
New Zealand’s solitary medal came on the opening day, Waikato’s Jason Snell taking the bronze for third in the 12-and-under boys’ three metre springboard.
