Trainees’ grant from P.P.T.A.?
PA Auckland The Post-Primary Teachers’ Association may give $lOOO to teacher trainees to replace the $lOOO grant which the Minister of Education, Mr Wellington, has withdrawn.
A meeting of the Auckland regional branch of the P.P.T.A. has strongly supported the trainees’ protest walkout on Wednesday.
Members voted unanimously to apply to the national executive to have $lOOO transferred from the P.P.T.A.’s emergency fund to the Trainee Teachers’ Association.
Mr Wellington announced on Wednesday that the Teacher Trainees’ Association would not get the annual grant because of trainees’ walkout from classes.
Mr Wellington said he would not tolerate such “shop floor tactics,” and he did not believe the trainees deserved taxpayers’ money.
The Education Institute has reported, messages of outrage from teachers and parents over the withdrawal of the grant, the institute’s past president, Mr Gerry Brown, said yesterday in Wellington.
