Women warned of Texas ‘health risk’

PA Wellington A “cross your legs for peace” campaign against the sailors of the United States nuclear warship Texas has begun in Wellington.

In a leaflet distributed yesterday, the Womens Health Collective says: “One ship and 400 sailors not only makes New Zealand a target but brings other health risks for women.”

The leaflet warns women that they will be susceptible, to sexually transmitted diseases unheard of in New Zealand. It suggests that the dreaded A.I.D.S. disease might be one of the strains being carried by the American sailors.

The leaflet leaves readers with the parting shot: “They’re not just here for the scones.”
