Supremity works well at Wingatui
Special correspondent Dunedin Supremity worked in grand style at Wingatui yesterday in preparation for the Amalgamated Packaging Handicap on the opening day of the Grand National meeting at Riccarton on Saturday. Supremity was keen to go on with her work after sprinting 800 metres with Gravel Rash in 50.65, the last 600 m in 37.85. She was ridden by Steven Prince, who has the mount on Saturday. Cliff Reese-Jones, who trains Supremity, was mystified by her lack-lustre effort last time out at Wash-
dyke on July 23. Gravel Rash was forced out of racing in October with a hock injury. Tina Kumai did well to return 51.4 s for 800 m after reaching speed just after passing the 1000 m peg. She will resume racing at the Oamaru meeting on August 22.
Tina Kumai’s trainer, Hector Anderton also plans to launch First Prince, a three-year-old brother of Prince Majestic, on a race career at Oamaru. Noble River dashed two and a half lengths clear of Midnight Caper at the end of 600 m in 40.65. Noble River is in the Paparua Handicap on Saturday.
