Yacht runs aground

A Lyttelton-based yacht, Granny Apple, had to be towed off the Sumner bar after it ran aground just after midday yesterday. The 12m yacht, with two men aboard, was seen by Constable Eddie Soppet, of Sumner, being battered by the surf. It had run aground while crossing the bar on a voyage from Lyttelton. Constable Soppet alerted the Sumner Lifeboat Institution, and a lifeboat and a recovery boat towed the Granny Apple back into the channel. It motored to a mooring at Sumner.
