Americans confident
NZPA-Reuter Sydney The coach of the American Eagles rugby team, Mr Ron Mayes, yesterday warned that Australia would be foolish to underestimate the tourists when they meet in the inaugural test at the Sydney Cricket Ground today. Mr Mayes, a former New Zealand Counties player now living in California, said: “We came here a little tentatively, but our spirits rose with wins against Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria, although a little doubt crept back in against Sydney last week. “But our confidence rose against Queensland last Sunday and we even felt we should have beaten them.
“We now genuinely believe we can beat the Aussies,” Mr Mayes said.
