Chch visitors for Chathams

The Chathams trader Holmdale will probably be at Waitangi at the same time as a Canterbury delegation is there telling the islanders that Lyttelton is a better base for the vessel than Napier. The 911-ton Holmdale is scheduled to leave for the Chathams about midday today. Aboard she will have her usual cargo- of stores as well as a tractor, a car, and a four-wheel-drive vehicle. According to her agent, she should still be at Waitangi on Wednedsay, which is the day the Canterbury delegation will arrive there. The delegation comprises representatives of Canterbury business interests and local authorities, as well as the chairman, of the Lyttelton Harbour Board, Captain A. R. Champion, and the general manager, Mr lan Brokenshire. It will be on the islands from July 13 to July 18 and plans include holding talks with the Chatham Island County Council and addressing public meetings. Its aim is to counteract representations from the Hawke’s Bay Harbour Board, Which has told the islanders they would benefit if the Holmdale was based at Napier. The Holmdale returned from her last visit to the Chathams on June 8. Since then she has had her regular survey. ARRIVALS
