Record broken
After two misses by fractions of a second in the last few months, Anthony Beks (New Brighton) finally broke the New Zealand junior boys 200 m breastroke record in a special attempt at the Queen Elizabeth II Park pool last evening. Beks was within a second of the time at the national championships in March, but last evening broke the old record, set by Roman Novak in 1975, by 0.55. Beks’ time was 2min 32.55. This week-end Beks will atempt to set national junior short-course records at the New Zealand winter championships in Lower Hutt.
