Angler lands his final catch

NZPA London An angler, Fred Cooke, caught the fish of his dreams, a 7kg salmon, after a mighty battle. Then he died a happy man, reports the “Daily Express” newspaper. It was the first salmon that Mr Cooke, who was 64, had landed, and the excitement proved too much. He suffered a heart attack and collapsed beside his gleaming catch. His son, Christopher, said,

“I am sure dad died happy. When I saw him later he seemed to have a smile on his face.” The salmon he had hooked in the River Wye put up a tremendous fight. Other anglers watched for 30 minutes the excitement of bringing it to the net: “He lived for his fishing. He made sure he landed the salmon before he went,” said Christopher Cooke. “We will probably eat it — I think Dad would have approved of that.”
