None come forward after dance fracas

The Canterbury Council for Civil Liberties had got nowhere in its intended investigation of the fracas at the Caledonian Hall on May 28, said the chairman of the council, Professor W. E. Willmott, last evening. Although five lawyers had been assigned to take “depositions” from some of the 200 persons who confronted the police at the disturbance during a dance for the un-

employed, no-one had come forward, said Professor Willmott. “Some of them told us that they would do something, but we have heard nothing at all from them. There is nothing more we can do,” he said.

Several persons have appeared in court as a result of the incident, which left several policemen injured.
